Tips for Communicating with Legislators
The letter is the most popular choice of communication with your legislators. The following suggestions will make your letter more effective.
- Your purpose for writing should be stated in the first paragraph of the letter. If the letter pertains to a piece of legislation, you should clearly identify it.
- Be courteous and to the point, and make sure you include key information and include examples to support your position.
- Try to keep the letter to one page, and only address one issue per letter.
- If sending an E-Mail, make sure you follow the steps above and include Your name, address, city, state and zipcode. The E-mail should be written as if you were sending a formal letter.
